Alice Tai has marked her Paralympian debut with a bronze medal in her very first event on day three of the 2016 Games in Rio. Finishing first in her heat of the S10 100m Backstroke with a time of 1:09.64, the Bournemouth Collegiate swimmer qualified third fastest for the final behind New Zealand favourite Sophie Pascoe and Hungary’s Bianka Pap. Turning into the final 50 metres in second place, Alice was overtaken by Pap over the last 25 metres but held off Canada’s Aurelie Rivard to touch third in 1:09.39. Sophie Pascoe (1:07.04) and Bianka Pap (1:07.95) took gold and silver medals respectively. With the S10 100m Butterfly and S10 100m Freestyle still come, congratulations Alice on this spectacular achievement.
