Becoming a Timekeeper is an introduction into the world of the swimming official. The course covers the practical aspects of what is required of a timekeeper by means of a short theory session followed by a practical assessment.
The individual course costs £5 per person and undertaken by following the individual online module https://www.swimming.org/ios/course/3847. Once you have completed the online learning, you will need to download your e-certificate and contact your Club to help arrange your practical session.
The practical session for timekeeper status will confer fully qualified Timekeeper status once authenticated evidence of the satisfactory theory and practical is uploaded by the candidate to their personal Swim England membership record. This practical affirmation must happen before being eligible to be a timekeeper at Licensed Meets.
Prerequisites: The minimum age is 15 years and candidates must be a current member of Swim England.
The online component of Judge One training is delivered exclusively by online learning; this mode of training began in January 2020 after the successful pilot in 2019. The Swim England SWR pays the £20 fee per candidate for this course, which covers the online training and subsequent licence fee to register as a Judge Level One. The online theory has to be followed up with at least 15 hours of poolside mentored practice before the pass at Judge One is ratified.
Registration is done by the individual candidate once they have created their own online learning account with the Institute of Swimming. The Scheme is managed for the Swim England SWR by Jill Beard who is the Swim England SW Regional Officials Training and Development Coordinator. This is a rolling programme where an individual can commence learning at a time convenient to them. On completing the online learning, all candidates will be supported by a locally appointed Referee to guide candidates through the practical phase as opportunities become available. Please only register for this generously funded training if you are committed to completing all elements.
