Welcome to Dorset Schools

In this section of the website you will find the latest news and information for Schools swimming, diving and water polo events in Dorset, regional Division 12 and at National level.

 

Who are we?

Dorset Schools Swimming Association (DSSA) is affiliated to Dorset County ASA and the English Schools Swimming Association (ESSA). The DSSA Committee oversees the competitive programme for Primary and Secondary schools in , in Dorset. The County is divided into eight areas: West Dorset, Weymouth & Portland, North Dorset, Purbeck, East Dorset, Poole, Bournemouth and Christchurch.

These areas endeavour to hold a Year 5 & Year 6 event annually, as well as a Year 4 ‘teaching style’ gala for younger swimmers. The organisation of these events relies on volunteer organisers and volunteer officials across the County. The joint Years 5 & 6 ESSA relay teams can be selected for an area final which is usually held in April at The Quays in Southampton; this in turn can lead to the National Final, for which Dorset Schools has often been selected.

Secondary Schools are invited to a Team Relay Event in the Autumn Term, which again can lead to a National Final in February where we are frequently represented and an Individual Championship held in June, when there is an opportunity to be selected for the Division 12 Area Finals in September held at The Quays, Southampton, and further to the National Finals in October, where Dorset swimmers have been very successful in the past.

Other local schools events are held around the County on an informal basis, sometimes catering for different age or interest groups.
