Seagulls' Alice Tai was awarded Top Swimmer in her age group at this year's DSE Disability Nationals held in March in Sheffield having won gold medals in all of her eight events. Competing in the S10 classification, the 13-year old Dorset swimmer was competing in the youngest 10-14 years age group but her times were good enough to have given her gold in the older 14-16 years age group. Alice was presented with her Top Swimmer trophy by Charles Reed of the English Federation of Disability Sport.
DSE Junior Championships 2011
Two Dorset swimmers have returned triumphant from this year's DSE Junior Championships held at Pond's Forge, Sheffield in February.
Competing in the S9 category, eleven year old Alice Tai from Christchurch Seagulls had a very successful weekend breaking all of her personal best times and winning a handful of silver medals in the 400m Freestyle, 100m Freestyle, 100 Backstroke and 100m Individual Medley events, together with bronze medals in the 50m Backstroke and Freestyle events.
Twelve year old George Rogers, who has only been a member of West Dorset for eighteen months, took a silver medal in the 50m Breaststroke (S6 category) and bronze in both the 50m Backstroke and Freestyle (S7 category) events at his first ever Nationals. This follows his recent success at the 2010 ASASWR DSE Championships where he took home two golds and a silver medal.
